O is for OOD #alphabeasts

Anyone who knows me personally knows my love of The Ood a species of alien on DOCTOR WHO. Case in point, one of my ferrets is named “Ood” because he’s albino, with distinct red eyes and is just plain weird. Another fun fact you may not know about me: I sing to my pets. Somehow, Ood’s song got mixed with my discovery of Wu-Tang Clan so that I now call him “Ood Tang Clan” or “Ood Dirty Bastard.” This is especially funny to me because The Ood actually have a song on the TV show. “We will sing to you Doctor,” they say when he begins regenerating into a new incarnation. So when I had the chance to draw Ood for Alphabeasts, I knew I wanted to mix it up with an homage to the hip-hop group.

Having had conversations with Sean Murphy, Ben Towle and E.C. Steiner about inking techniques this week, I used this alphabeast as a chance to experiment solely with brush and quill. Usually I use technical pens and feel totally out of my element with a brush. Also, I can’t find a good pen lower than a .25 gauge. So I tested some nibs here for smaller lines.
